Re: so hard

I would invite you out for some heavy drinking but I suspect New York might be a bit too far to travel... either way - maybe a few beers would help... lol

Re: so hard

Thx Michael; yes N.Y is toto far by now but i'll sure keep the invitation in mind because i'm likely to come back to New York one day :-)

as for the beers yeah it helps but to be really happy i think i would need a perpetual transfusion so i never come back on earth. something to try...

Re: so hard

Good scotch works better (and faster) than beer...  Or, you can combine the two
for added benefit... ;-)  In lieu of scotch, any form of whisky/whiskey will suffice...
Just so long as it burns like the blazing fires of hell going down, which helps in taking
your mind off the perpetual suckiness of life... ;-)

Re: so hard

I don't agree, the best alcohol is rhum for sure.

This alcohol can drive you crazy, try to drink a whole bottle and you'll become totally crazy :-) plus it increases sexual abilities, well in fact not if you drink the whole bottle unfortunately :(

Rob i think i'm gonna write some essais like your wonderful "life is sewer rat" :-) i'm so sad you don't write a new story about that.

Re: so hard

Hell, I don't even have time to write non-work-related code I'd like to, let alone
write stories anymore! ;-)  College was a MUCH easier and less hectic time of my
life, that's for damn sure (even if I didn't realize it at the time)... ;-)

Re: so hard

Looool ok ok. I thought you were angry with me, i was ashamed :-)

I think penis is quite a common word plus expression freedom must be respeted, unauthorized words should be decided by the admins i think, not the app.

But it sounds good to me i won't have to put "*" when i wanna write a bad word :-)

Re: so hard

I don't think its a 'bad' word either... but I am now thinking...

The forum is CONSTANTLY indexed by the search engines... and now we have a forum section called the 'lounge'... with a thread named 'so hard'... with the word 'penis' in it multiple times...

So how many people might end up here accidentally thinking the socket faq is a porn site... lol

Re: so hard

LOL you're right that's a bit strange.

But i think it's ok compared to the fuc*ing user who is spamming every channels of the forum with his cell phones...

Re: so hard

*laugh*

I don't know where you got the idea that ANY words were filtered around here,
Michael...  I've said shit that'd make sailors blush before... ;-)  I think in a previous
discussion we all agreed that being able to swear was necessary for a programmer
to be able to write code effectively... ;-)

Oh, but on a more serious note, regarding Windoze and it being a semi-sane
network coding environment...  Well, I honestly can't speak from experience (thank
$DEITY), but just from the questions posted here by people having trouble getting
perfectly correct sockets code to work under Windoze, I have to question that...
Ok, the one big thing that sticks in my head to this day, and I STILL can't get over,
is the apparent fact they don't use simple FDs for sockets, and so you get shit like
select() not being able to work with normal FDs there, and not being able to use
simple read()/write() on sockets...  I mean, COME ON!  WTF were they thinking
with that brain-dead idea??

But, anyway...  I'm just a grumpy old Unix geek... ;-)  I'd probably go work at
McDonald's or something, if my only other alternative were Windoze programming
work... ;-)

Re: so hard

The forum has word filtering capability, so if anyone's feeling particularly bored and has some words he absolutely detests and hates, have fun typing them into the system.

Bug if they're funny enough I'll post that list, instead of only disabling the filtering. ;-)

Small spam explosion lately, perhaps it's time to upgrade the forum software, maybe we can do that ourselves, without vic's help, though I'm not sure how.

Re: so hard

Can we filter out the words "Microsoft" and "Windows"?? ;-)

Yeah, this morning some idiot managed to post a ton of stupid-ass spam by
himself, before I showed up to delete them and ban him...  Most of the scumbags
at least only post ONE spam each... ;-)  It certainly made me wish for some
option even stronger than permanent banning, like being able to reach through
the wires, and smack him upside the head... ;-)

I'm not really sure what's involved in upgrading, either...  There's a download link
in the admin page, but it seems to be password-protected, and I'm not sure what
the login/password is supposed to be for that...  And, then, even if we still have full
remote access to the machine (I never actually tried it at all back when Vic gave it
to us), I'd be hesitant to try the install remotely...  It'd probably go fine, but if it didn't,
I'd hate to leave poor Vic's machine hosed and unreachable by anyone... ;-)
