Re: Socket FAQ Forums are Back!

I've done a couple of upgrades to the site.  Most obviously I've upgraded from phpBB to vBulletin.  Behind the scenes I've put the site on a much faster server, so it should be more responsive.

I'm going to be adding Google AdSense to the forums to try to recoup the cost of the vBulletin software.  I hope nobody minds; I think the value of vBulletin is worth a few ads.  If/when I make back my investment in the software I will remove the ads.

Re: Socket FAQ Forums are Back!

Thanks, Vic!  The new forum software seems spiffy...

Now, hopefully Loco, i3839, and Nope come back soon, along with the regular
users! ;-)

Re: Socket FAQ Forums are Back!

I'm here. :-)

Can we change the display time to infinite for all forums or must that be done for each one seperately? Otherwise all threads may be invisible (I already fixed the FAQ).

The site is much faster now, so the upgrade is noticeable.

The google ads are fine, though don't expect me to click on them, I block all google adds. phpBB was getting out of hand, I hope vBulletin will turn out to be at least more secure (just curious, how much did it cost?).

I'll continue fiddling with some forum settings, to see what's safe.

Re: Socket FAQ Forums are Back!

I'm afraid the display time has to be set on each forum seperately.  Sorry!

It cost $160 USD, and then it costs $30/yr for updates, which we'll need because of security issues.

I'm glad you guys like it!

Re: Socket FAQ Forums are Back!

Well, I am back too.

No time right now to hop through the features, but the first impression is a good one. Of course at least I will need time to get used to it.
