Re: Vacation time again...

Once again, I'm off to NH for a week or two, this coming Saturday...  The place seems
pretty dead lately anyway, except for the spammers... ;-/

Re: Vacation time again...

Have fun!

Yeah, it is. Spammers never take a break though. Pity. I'll be gone myself
in January, till the 26th, but I'll try to check the site now and then.

Re: Vacation time again...

My internet is down a while and will take a few more days till it's fixed.
And next week I'm going to Australia again, so all in all I won't be online
that much these weeks.

Happy new year! (In case we don't meet before that)

Re: Vacation time again...

Cool...  Have fun!  The place seems pretty quiet lately, anyway...  (Have you been deleting spam?  Because, I haven't seen much...)

For a change, I'll actually be sticking around for the holidays, so I should be able to keep an eye on the place, anyway...

Re: Vacation time again...

Thanks!

No, I hardly delete spam. There was a burst of guest spam always in the same thread,
but besides that nothing at all.

I am deleting spam accounts though, basically any new account with a dodgy website
in their signature or info. Seems that most accounts are made manually.

My main worry are those accounts with no posts and nothing else suspicious laying
dormant until they start spamming or something. I will delete any inactive accounts
with no subscriptions or any posts now and then for this reason.

My other worry is that they are used to send spam emails to members, but if they
do they are probably smar tenough to not send it to admins.

Have a nice snowy winter!

Re: Vacation time again...

Yeah, the only spam I've ever seen here is guest spam, so I don't even know what the "ban/delete user" interface is like now...

Heh.  So far, we haven't seen a single flake yet here...  Either it's global warming, or just typical unpredictable New England weather, and it means we'll get a big snowstorm next July instead... ;-)

Re: Vacation time again...

Seems life's slowly returning now I made signing up easier.
Very sad that people don't know their real IP address anymore,
bloody NAT.

Anyway, I'm going to Australia again, so will check the forum
a little bit less often.

Re: Vacation time again...

I'm heading off to NH again this weekend, and will be away for about 2 weeks...

What happened to all the other admins around here anyway?  Just me and you left as regulars it seems, i3839?

Re: Vacation time again...

Seems like it. I miss the other guys. :-/

That it's becoming more quiet over here is probably partly the fault of Google search going downhill,
if we had more people asking interesting questions we would need more admins too. Oh well.

Have a good time in NH, wherever that is! (I forgot. I guess it's not Noord-Holland. ;-)

Re: Vacation time again...

Heh.  New Hampshire...  Where, unless you like to ski (which I don't), there's absolutely nothing to do in the wintertime...  So, I'm sure to be bored out of my skull after a few days...

Sounds like nice wintery mountain landscape. Can't you go hiking around a bit?

Re: Vacation time again...

Oh, sure, and in my younger days I would...  But, these days, I just feel too lazy and old to want to trek through snow in the cold anymore... ;-)  In the summertime, I'll still sometimes hike around on top of Cannon Mountain, but I've just come to hate the cold and snow the older I get...

Re: Vacation time again...

I'm just back from a four day hiking trip myself. I'm still in Tasmania though.
It always seem quiet around this time of year, must be all the vacations.

Hope you had a nice, not too boring stay, welcome back!

Cool...  How is the wild Tasmanian devil population doing these days?  Last I heard, they were on the road to extinction due to that weird facial tumor disease...

Yeah, the only posts I've seen since I got back have been from spammers...  Though, a few are starting to become rather clever...  At least one was a perfectly reasonable sounding reply in some thread stating something like, "Anything further on this issue?  I had a similar issue myself a while back, but managed to solve it by <something>", where <something> was a link to some commercial software product of some sort...  If it were actually on topic, I might've even let it stay, regardless of the blatent promotion of a commercial product; but, as it was, the product was for something completely unrelated to the topic at hand, and was for repairing MS Outlook databases, or some such nonsense... ;-)

Hope you had a nice, not too boring stay, welcome back!

Well, it was restful at least...  I'm glad to be back home, though...

Well, there are disease free devils in the North-West, but its slowly spreading that way, so it seems just a matter of time.
As long as the cause of it doesn't disappear they're doomed anyway. My impression is that they either can't handle the poisons used by forestry and/or farmers, or they have a crappy immune system and can't handle any kind of pollution. Or they're just allergic to asphalt, who knows.

Well, it was restful at least...  I'm glad to be back home, though...

Perhaps go only one week next time or something?

Yeah, but then I'd feel like crap for making my grandmother sad...  It's bad enough already when she already complains about how short a time I'm there!

Re: Vacation time again...

You could go more often, but visiting for shorter times, but I guess the distance
is such that that's not easily done. Oh well.
