What are the main difference between SIM and SMART cards in terms of following  ...

1. Communication Protocol
2. Slot/Socket  interface
3.Architectural difference

SIM(Subscriber Identity Module) card itself a SMART CARD,that contain IMSI(International Mobile Subscriber Identity), emergency numbers and you can store your personal informations along with short messages in the contained memory.
two types of smart cards : contact and contact less. Sim card is a contact smart card& is programmed with a unique serial number and mobile number, and a user can swap the card between cell phones.
